Online jail visits, new software sought by sheriff

The Dickson County Sheriff's Office is in discussions with both a Middle Tennessee company to purchase new software for about $40,000 annually and a Virginia business to implement a new online jail visitation system that could generate revenue for the county , the sheriff said.

The money for the new software would come from a litigation tax fund so no new tax revenue streams would be required, said Sheriff Jeff
Bledsoe at the county commission work session meeting Monday. The county litigation tax is a tax on people involved in civil and criminal court proceedings. The county courthouse and jail litigation tax fund is currently at $374,000, according to Don Hall, county director of accounts and budgets.

The county commission approved on first vote the new software – called J2 Software Solutions and based in Tullahoma, Tenn. – with a second, and possibly final, vote at the Feb. 18 regular commission meeting.

Bledsoe said he's searched for "more user-friendly software" since he was elected in 2010.  Read More.
